Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Basu and Ganay Notebook, this edition of April 11th, 2025. Arpin, we are on the eve or the cusp of the Canadians making the playoffs. They could clinch tonight in Ottawa, where you are right now. So it could happen tonight in Ottawa. It could happen tomorrow in Toronto. But it's looking pretty good.

It could happen without them doing anything, frankly. I mean, it could happen. Yeah. They are on the verge. So by the time you listen to this, maybe it's already happened, but whatever. The Canadians are a playoff team. I think we can safely say that.

Waiting for Ivan

Demidov’s arrival has managed to put the Canadiens potentially clinching a playoff spot on the back burner.

I like that suggestion of moving Laine to the second PP unit and giving Caufield the left circle.

Agreed. Coles shot is wicked and he's accurate as well. He does seem to be a little bit lost on the PP when the play doesn't flow the way they want as well. Having a "static" place he can be expected to be and shoot from may help that.

Not sure if he is the second coming but I’ve heard that he skates on water.

Almost exactly 2 years ago, there was that video posted of Marty showing Caufield how to fake a one-timer then step in to change the angle and take a wrist shot. Then Caufield scored against Ottawa with the exact same move. The video is titled "Proof that Martin St.Louis has influenced Cole Caufield" on youtube. (I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post the link or not).

I would like to see Laine try that move to add a little deception. I think it could make opposing teams more hesitant to get out of position to block the one-timer, knowing they could get burned by Laine faking the shot and stepping in.

Btw, awesome podcast guys! Keep up great the work. Go Habs Go!

Laine 5 on 5 seems to be the elephant in the room on the second line.

Just a heads up that the Substack app and the website do not permit for you to pick up where left off so if the podcast is interrupted by life you’re forced to begin all over again. Don’t know if it’s simply iPad or iPhone but it’s my experience.

Listening to this on Monday. Habs haven't clinched yet and CBJ are making me nervous. I blame Arpon 100%.

MAG, your mic much better. Arpun, yours now needs to be better. Hard to hear you on CarPlay during this morning’s drive.

Loved the content.

Dynamo Moscow indeed also plays on an NHL-size rink, just like SKA St Petersburg. Good eye, Arpon!
